My mom loved going out to eat. It was not unusual to find us shopping followed by a trip to Cheesecake Factory or Baker’s Square. Pie. That’s where it was at. We would have a salad…because isn’t that healthy…followed by a slice of pie to take home.

I read a SOL yesterday from a fellow slicer, Imagine the Possibilities. She described a writing exercise where you choose a penny and look at the date. Then you write about a memory from the year on the coin. This is so super cool. I love this idea and couldn’t wait to try it today…maybe I’ll even do it with my students when testing season winds down. We started IAR and ISA today. DLM also began. Glitches in the systems caused this special educator slash technology teacher slash IT fire putter-outer slash test proctor to be extremely busy.
I like to listen to podcasts when I am in the car. I have turned into an old lady and most music just sounds like noise to me.. What happened to the music of the good ole days? On our way to school, we frequently listen to a couple of different news podcasts or story podcasts for little kids.
But I don’t wanna go to bed. The sun is still up.
Daylight savings time is killer on a toddler’s routine. She gets out of her bed every 10-15 minutes until close to 9:30. Tomorrow morning is going to be awful. I need to wake her at 6:00 AM when her little body still thinks it’s 5:00 AM.
I have a date today. He’s a tall, handsome, older gentleman with envious silver hair. He would be described by those of his generation as a silver fox. He’s retired and treats me well. He buys me dinner every Sunday at his favorite restaurant.
It’s one of those days. Chilly and wet and lazy. When I was making my meal plan mid week, I checked the weather and knew it would be a good day for soup. Which one? I make a few tasty soups that would fit the bill. Then I remembered my aunt had asked me recently for grandma’s vegetable beef barley soup.
McK slept in a crib until we moved to our new house. She was almost two and a half when we spent our very first night here. She got to pick out everything for her new room. She chose a lovely yellow flowered bedspread that matched the white furniture perfectly.
She has the most beautiful hair. It’s long and blond and as thick as can be. It’s shiny and healthy. I am completely jealous. I wrote about it last year. You can read about it HERE.
Several nights a week I am down in the city at UIC for classes. Back in the summer, my father-in-law would come to stay with the kids and I would head down early to beat traffic. Upon arrival, I would have my car valeted at a local restaurant and sit on their patio with some classmates.
On our way to school, McK and I chit-chat about all sorts of things. Sometimes we talk about her friends or music. Sometimes we listen to my favorite podcast if the topic is appropriate. Sometimes we listen to her favorite podcast to hear a good story. Sometimes we play an epic game of I spy…
