5SOL24: boom

It seemed like I had just closed my eyes when I heard the rumbling thunder. It was low at first. It echoed through the cracked window as in a cave. It was the coolest thunder I had ever heard. It reverberated for what had to be miles and miles.

Did you hear it?

With the loud booming, I knew it was just a matter of time. I was successfully dozing when another…something…woke me. What was that noise. Ah. Yes. It was the BOOMING thunder followed by the thump, thump, thump of George coming down the ladder of his bunk bed. He’s never been quiet while sneaking out of his bed, but last night he opened the door with a fury I hadn’t heard in a long time.

Mommy. I’m so scared. Can I snuggle for just a little while?

Sure, Big Guy. Climb in

We were just falling back to sleep when I heard the next one coming to find me.

But where Georgie go? I cannot see him. I was looking to find him in his top bunk [all one word…topbunk].

I flipped George to the middle and pulled Theo up on my left. After about 20 minutes, the storm had settled and I convinced them both to head back to their own beds. As I was shutting the door…BOOM! Theo was out of his bed and into my room before I even knew what was happening. George was right behind him. It was only 12:17AM. With one kid snuggled up on each shoulder, I tried to get some rest. It’s going to be a long night. Please let McKenna not wake up.

Clowns to the left of me.
Jokers to the right.
Here I am stuck in the middle with you.

Theo kept coughing, sticking his fingers in my nose and covering my face with his green…his green washcloth he uses as a lovey. McKenna has yellow (now called rouns—like nouns but rouns) and George has orange (now called yiayia). George tossed his arm across my belly and his legs over mine while snoring softly in my ear. He was a spider monkey. A one billion degree spider monkey.

Why is it so sweaty in here?

As I tried to get settled on my side of the bed, I longingly glanced at my snoozing husband. He had his side to himself while I had three of us on the equivalent of a twin size bed. We have a split king. We were all literally just on my half while he was sprawled out on his.

I must half drifted off at some point because Aaron woke me around 6:20AM. If my alarm went off, I didn’t hear it. I have a feeling it didn’t actually go off. I tried to peel two sleeping boys off me so I could hurriedly ready for work. But Theo was so snuggly it was hard to leave the warmth of the now cool room. Alas, the boys started stirring and wanted pancakes with whipped cream for breakfast.

Check the calendar.
Office work day.
Pass me my yoga pants.

I’m writing this at just before 7:30PM. The boys are tucked in their beds. Theo is already passed out while George is just shy of lalala land. I just need to get McKenna down and I can zonk myself. I need to catch up on some much needed rest.

Aw, hard not to get good sleep but sounds sweet. My kiddos aren’t up too much at night but with the thunder last night, I wondered if I’d get a visitor. Thankfully everyone slept soundly though. Hope you get some rest tonight!

You got that right! It was the coolest. Neither one of mine get spooked anymore. How sad! JK. I can feel the warmth and sweetness in this slice.
