SOL 22: singles

The big kids were in bed by 8:30. Aaron asked if I wanted to watch a movie. He mentioned he just downloaded a movie he hadn’t seen before. Apparently it has a really good soundtrack. Had I seen it? Um? It’s from 1991. I have seen it probably a dozen times. Why hadn’t he?

You remember it. Right? Matt Dillon, Sheila Kelley, Kyra Sedgwick, Campbell Scott, Bill Pullman, Bridget Fonda. BABIES. All of them. Barely known Eddie Vedder and Chris Cornell…how cool is that?

But does it hold up 21 years later?

YES! It really does. The acting isn’t as bad as one would think from a bunch of newbies. Although the pop culture references are dated, it truly stands the test of time somehow. If you have the opportunity, I would suggest watching it again.

  1. This is quite a coincidence. I wrote the other day about my crazy drive to Canada for breakfast, followed by my interrupted sleep when I finally came back. After my friend woke me up, I could not get to sleep, so we and a few friends went to the movies and saw this very film. I only saw it the one time, and it left a deep impression. Thanks for this memory.
