SOL25: 3 no excuses

So here’s the thing. I forgot. Really. I did. I was spending the weekend with my husband. We were watching 80s romcoms. When Harry Met Sally still holds up thirty-FREAKING-six years later. We were eating at supper clubs and Italian restaurants. We’re were enjoying rooftop bars and boozy brunches. We were listening to favorite albums on a record player in a cool boutique hotel and getting pedicures. We were filling our cups while the kids were doing the same with their beloved Aunt Eve.

Is it a valid excuse? I would like to think so. Usually in the weeks leading up to slicing season, my mind is swimming with inspiration pieces and post starters. I keep a list of funny anecdotes or clever ideas in my notes app. But I’ve been so focused on my family and work and being my best me that the idea of slicing never entered my mind.

I mean…I knew it was March 1st on Saturday. But connecting that with my usual month of focused writing never happened. So this morning when I was finally back to reality and logged to to actually read my email rather than skim for important school announcements, I saw it filled with slices from some of my favorite authors over the years.

Oh shit. I said it out loud. My four year old questioned me. Oh shit what?

I really need to watch my potty mouth.

On my way to work I mentally composed an explanation. I was abducted by aliens. I was stuck under a large piece of furniture. I was brushing my cat’s teeth…and I don’t even have a cat.

But what is more of an acceptable explanation that living my life rather than slicing about it?

I am writing for the 18th annual Slice of Life challenge presented by Two Writing Teachers.
