Do your kids say words in some adorable way? McKenna used to call the washing mashing the washa-washa machine. Then one day—she just stopped. I don’t know when it happened but it just stopped and we had a regular washing machine. Same with bidiculous (ridiculous) and falaxin’ (relaxing). Those just disappeared as she grew.
She’s held onto framote (remote). But that’s mostly because she can never remember which is the real word because she’s been using it for so long.
George didn’t talk for the longest time. He said very few words. But he did call his sister Nenna since we called her Kenna. BTW—Kenna has since been banned from our house. She is McKenna…thank you very much. She’s a sassy one.

Theo has been saying MaHenna for McKenna since he could talk. And today, we with think we heard its demise. Aaron and I were lounging around and Theo was looking for his sister. He shouted, MaHenna. McKenna. We just looked at each other. Was that the very last time?
Hey, Buddy. Who are you looking for?
My sister. McKenna
Who?
I told you. McKenna.
Oh. Not MaHenna?
No. I said it. Her name is McKenna.
And just like that. It’s gone. I’m sad.

My mother referred to shampoos as “foo foos” until her last days and I was in my 60s! Yet, for most of us, the words just become a wonderful reminder of those toddler days. If you write them all down, you will remember

I’ve been documenting them all in different ways…here, my FB or IG. It just makes me sad.

It is sad when those words you hear and smile over slowly disappear. I had written a bunch down, but the paper got lost. (I remember is sher-gwert for yogurt, but few others.) Glad you are keeping these in multiple places.

Oh, I know this pain! You feel the wince as soon as the word is said correctly. Lovely slice, to capture this transition, a beautiful progression for a child and a sign they are growing too fast, for us adults…
