7 SOL 26: Rainbows

I have this thing about rainbows. I always seem to see them when I’m just having…a day. Maybe it is because they arrive after a storm and those will always put me in a foul mood. Or maybe it is because they just appear when I’m feeling a little down. Who knows.

Today was a gloomy wet day. It was warmer than I was expecting but just so rainy all day. The office was humid and that made me SO cranky. It wasn’t a bad day exactly…it was just…blah.

Then I noticed a rainbow on my way home. I couldn’t snap a picture of it but it made me smile. The kids were out playing after dinner and kids came running into the house as the sun was setting. They needed to show me something. That’s when I saw this beauty.

Those. Colors. WOW.

It brought me back to the day our house flooded and I desperately needed some sort of sign that everything was going to be OK. If you want to see a picture of the devastation—check out the one of the many posts I wrote about it.

Days after the flood, Aaron snapped this rainbow picture. I grabbed this flower photo a few days before that. These daffodils just popped up a week or so after the flood. We never planted them. They must have floated into our yard from a neighbor’s garden. Both these pictures now hang in our new home. They remind me that even after the harshest of storms, good things await.

I am writing for the 19th annual Slice of Life challenge presented by Two Writing Teachers.
