SOL 2020 21: social distancing day 8

Today was Saturday. The only reason I know this is because Aaron did not go to work today. That means that it is Saturday.

That system works for now.

But soon enough, he will be on his work-from-home rotation and then we really will need to use Siri’s services to remind us of the day of the week.

But on this Saturday, since we are good law abiding citizens, we stayed put in our home. I thought it was going to be a shit show. The kids have been home with me all week. We’ve tried to get outside a little everyday but weather and work are not always cooperative.

We are all at our tipping points.

But to my pleasant surprise, today was a good day. I made a delicious breakfast from our leftover corned beef dinner. Of course Aaron and I were the only ones who ate it. But that’s not unusual.

Then I worked on cleaning up the kitchen while Aaron played with the kids in the basement. McKenna finished a 100 piece puzzle. The box said for ages 6+. So naturally McKenna kept running around saying that she’s a rule breaker (sung to the tune of Heartbreaker). Her excitement was adorable.

The kids FaceTimed with Papa and Aunt Eve before running through the house like a couple of crazed animals. I made some bread dough to proof in the IP while. Before you knew it, it was time for lunch and nap/quiet time. George quieted and McKenna stayed in her room to play some Starfall and do a regular puzzle for regular kids, choosing not to break the rules any further. Aaron and I watched two episodes of The Handmaid’s Tale.

What the hell is going on here? Aaron began to question my description of our last week.

It was near 5:30 before the kids even asked for TV. I made a delicious pot of soup while the kids ate grilled cheese. Dinner, movie, and some playtime then it was bed.

That was the easiest day ever. A unicorn if you want to know the truth. It’ll never happen again. But today…today I was grateful for the ease of just being together.

I am writing for the 2020 Slice of Life Challenge.
